The Schneider Family

Texas A&M's 2016-2017 Parents of the Year: Dean and Glenda Schneider

Texas A&M Family Weekend Committee is excited to announce the 2016-2017 Parents of the Year, Dean and Glenda Schneider. They are the 41st Texas A&M Parents of the Year. This is a tradition that began in 1919 to honor Aggie Moms, then in 1974, it was evolved to honor Aggie Parents.

The journey to Parents of the Year is first and foremost a love story; a love between two people fostered by the love of Texas A&M University. Dean and Glenda met the first day of classes in the fall of 1978. Their first date was on October 3, 1978 to Midnight Yell Practice for the Texas Tech game, and the rest is history. Glenda graduated in 1981 after only three years at TAMU with a degree in Microbiology. She then followed her soul mate to Medical Technology School at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Tx. Dean graduated with his degree in Electrical Engineering in May 1982. In June of 1982 he went on active duty with the United States Air Force.

The couple moved around from Austin, Tx., to Whichita, Ks., to Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, to San Antonio, Tx., and back to Austin, Tx., but in the end, they were placed right back where it all began, College Station, Tx. Along the way, the couple welcomed their six Aggie children into the world: Joshua '05, Bethany '07, Raechel '10, Thomas '12, Peter '14, and Hannah '16.

Throughout all their travels, Dean and Glenda were avid volunteers. As parents, they knew it was important to teach their children to be a part of something bigger than themselves. Dean was active in Boy Scouts and all three sons achieved Eagle Scout. Dean and Glenda volunteered at their churches throughout the years and continue to do so. Glenda also volunteered at all the kids' schools, and at one point they were in five different schools! Someone told Glenda that she should become a teacher since she was there all the time anyway. So, she started a program to get her Masters in Education and teaching certificate. The day Hannah started Kindergarten was Glenda's first day of her teaching career.

Glenda recently retired from her job as a teacher while Dean currently works for the Texas A&M Energy Institute as the Deputy Director of the Gulf Coast Regional Manufacturing Center of the National DOE Clean Energy Smart Manufacturing Innovation Institute.

Dean and Glenda fostered the pillars of Texas A&M in their children from a young age, allowing them to grow and flourish into the independent and diverse individuals they are today. Texas A&M taught them what it means to love and respect, and they took those lessons to create a family they couldn't be more proud of. As their family has grown through marriages and grandchildren, the Schneiders have remained rooted deep in the heart of Aggieland.
