Parents of the Year
Texas A&M's 2017-2018 Parents of the Year: Rodney and Shelly Moss
Texas A&M Family Weekend Committee is excited to announce the 2017-2018 Parents of the Year, Rodney and Shelly Moss. They are the 42nd couple to be named Texas A&M Parents of the Year. This is a tradition that began in 1919 to honor Aggie Moms, then in 1974, it was evolved to honor Aggie Parents.
Although the couple did not meet during their undergraduate careers in Aggieland, Texas A&M still played a role in their “Happily Ever After.” While in Birmingham, Alabama, Rodney spotted a vehicle with a Texas A&M decal. He proceeded to invite the owner of the vehicle to Aggie Muster. After deliberating the invitation, Shelly agreed to meet Rodney and the couple has been together ever since.
The couple have four children who are heavily rooted in the traditions and pride present at Texas A&M University: Hannah ’17, Ian ’18, Olivia ’20 and Sophie ’21. In an excerpt from their nomination, Olivia describes her parents as “Showing me what it means to not only be a student here, but a member of the Aggie Family. There is no greater school and there are no greater parents.” The couple has evidently excelled in showing their children Aggie values as shown by their children’s involvement within A&M. Their ability to raise children who have taken such an active role in the university leaves little doubt that the couple will excel in representing Texas A&M University while serving as the 2017-2018 Parents of the Year.
In the attachment at the bottom of the page you will find the names and years of former Parents of the Year.
